Plan Penken and Ahorn separately
In Mayrhofen, choosing a rental shop is part of choosing your first lift. A reservation in the village does not necessarily mean collection beside the access point for your booked lesson. Snowsports Mayrhofen rents equipment at Tuxerstraße 714; its own directions put the Penkenbahn roughly five minutes away on foot. This is the operator’s estimate, not a guaranteed walking time with children and luggage. Bründl Sports lists another specific option at the Penkenbahn valley station, Hauptstraße 472. The actual location of your booked branch remains the deciding factor.
Shop hours and lesson times
Snowsports publishes daily hours of 08:00–18:00 for Tuxerstraße 714, checked on 24 October 2026. Its ski school identifies its meeting point beside the yellow hut at the Penkenbahn mountain station. The gondola journey therefore belongs in the schedule between collection and instruction. Ask a different school separately about its meeting point. For an early lesson, arranging collection the previous day can be useful. Confirm when equipment will be ready and whether this adds to the charged rental period.
Price examples for winter 2026/27
The Snowsports list explicitly labelled winter 2026/27 quotes one-day ski-and-boot sets at €42 Bronze, €44 Silver, €45 Gold and €53 Platinum. It was checked on 24 October 2026. The €42–53 range describes these four sets from one operator, not an average of all Mayrhofen shops. Ask about poles, helmets and any other chosen services in your binding quote. For several days, compare the total amount rather than simply multiplying a one-day price by the length of your stay.
Families with different skiing abilities
Do not automatically select the adult equipment category for children. Give the shop their measurements and experience, and have the appropriate sizes fitted. If some family members attend lessons while others choose a different mountain, joint collection and the later meeting point are separate decisions. Decide who carries ordinary shoes and who remains available if equipment needs changing. Returning from the mountain station to a valley rental shop takes time; it is best to recognise that before the lesson is about to begin.
Parking and public transport
The lift company explicitly states that there is no parking directly at the Penkenbahn. Paid day parking is available at the Ahornbahn; drivers heading for Penken are also directed to the Horbergbahn in Schwendau, which has free parking. Check whether that alternative access point fits your already booked collection address. Rail passengers travel through Jenbach and continue to Mayrhofen on the Zillertalbahn. Drivers approach via the A12 and B169. Allow for the additional journey from your parking space to the shop and to the lift you actually intend to use. If you park at Ahornbahn but start at Penken, check the route between car park, rental shop and lift on a map beforehand. The return involves the same connections in reverse. Agree on a meeting place after returning the equipment and keep parking information separate from the rental receipt, so both tasks remain manageable if the family separates during the day.
